Frozen Lime Asia Gives Back to Community with Touch Community Services
Delivers Meals On Wheels to the Elderly in Singapore
As the year comes to a close for 2018, Team FLA wanted to remember the community around us, and for the second time this year, volunteered for the Meals-on-Wheels programme. Meals-on-Wheels is a meal delivery programme to meet the daily needs of the home-bound elderly, who usually live alone, and depend on volunteers from TOUCH Home Care's Meals-on-Wheels to deliver their meals every day.
The meal boxes are carefully packed (by volunteers too), and sorted out according to health and dietary requirements. Year-end is also a time of fewer volunteers as people tend to be away, and so this is a particular need period for volunteers to help out if able.
Team FLA picked up and delivered 60 meals to some 50 households around specific areas in Singapore last Friday, doing the dinner run between 3.30pm to 6.30pm.
Here's what the team had to share of the experience.
Jagdish - It may seem like such a menial task but we forget just how much effort it takes to plan, prepare, and deliver these meals to the elderly in need, makes me be thankful for just how lucky many of us are. I'm grateful that we had this opportunity again to put smiles on their faces :)
Serene - Glad I had a chance to give back to our community by doing something where we focus on helping someone else in need, instead of focusing on ourselves. Everyone, rich or poor, takes from society, and volunteering is one way to show a sense of appreciation.
Aileene - Doing this a second time round with the team was good, specially during the build-up to year-end holidays when people can feel lonelier than usual. It was good to recognise some of the elderly whom I delivered meals to before, their thanks meant so much.
Lawrence- It was a most humbling experience and I am most grateful to have had this opportunity to share such moments with the elderly.
Jasmine - A hot meal and smile is small effort on our part to deliver a little kindness. Contributing to this effort as a team the second time round this year, there was a sense of urgency to complete the deliveries on time to ensure no one was left hungry and waiting too long. We look forward to helping out more and strongly recommend for everyone to support this worthy community effort.
Leonard - Taking part in the meals-on-wheels programme was a humbling experience. It was nice to get together as a team to play a part in supporting the elderly, who are appreciative of assistance they receive. I look forward to the next meals-on-wheels session.
Zhi Hoe - A hearty meal for the elderly, a simple effort on our part, made me happy to be a part of this experience. It was an eye-opener to realise how fortunate we are, and how this experience is a timely reminder to be thankful for everything and everyone we have in our lives. Great way to bond with the team and meaningful experience giving back to the less fortunate.
