Event focuses on Cruise Tourism in Asia and beyond

Sailing through to its second year, Travel Weekly Asia's Cruiseworld Asia 2018 was held in Singapore at the Raffles City Convention Centre from 3 to 5 October. The event was well attended by delegates and participants from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, India and Myanmar. 

In 2017, the number of Asian cruise passengers exceeded a record of four million and shows no sign of slowing down. The Cruise Lines International Association also forecasts a 20% increase in the number of ships and variety of cruises this year. Panelists taking to the podium consisted of the leading cruise lines, travel associations and tourism boards - all echoed the importance of capturing customers by delivering what the consumer wants, and discoursed ways to sustain growth in the region. 

Leaders in the industry such as Royal Caribbean, Genting Cruise Lines and Costa Cruises shared on the importance of crafting the perfect cruise experience, as well as working together with travel associations and tourism boards to promote the cruise industry to various sectors and market segments. They also highlighted that taking a cruise holiday, cuts down the travelling time by 20-30%.

With the increase of various new markets, other exciting topics covered included marketing river cruises, fly-cruises, themed cruises, halal cruising, MICE and more. 

Travel Agents such as UOB Travel, Citystate Travel, Dynasty Travel, Destination Asia, Euro-Asia Holidays also shared their insights on how the cruise industry can improve and, the difference in selling and promoting cruise tourism. 

National and cruise tourism associations like Singapore Tourism Board,  Cruise Lines International Association, Intercruises Shoreside & Port Services, Indonesia Tourism Board and Philippine Travel Agencies Association contributed insights on how else to contribute to the industry for future growth. The Changi Airport Group is also in talks with SATS-Creuers Cruise Services, discussing how cruise borne passengers can enjoy airport facilities with luggage handling.
